Her brother the late Clem Abbott was a highly respected water colourist from the Hermannsburg school.
In her earlier work Marie used watercolours to paint the landscape but her brother said that she should paint her own style.
From this Marie developed a naturalistic stle of landscapes using acrylicpaint on canvas, eventually combining dotting into the landscape very successfully.
During the period 1993 to 1996 Marie would detail birds of the region into her landscapes.
Since 1996 the subject of her work has been illustrating bush foods and women gathering using symbolic designs and dotting, although she has begun to paint the landscapes once again.
Marie painted a large mural at the Aboriginal Birthing Centre in Alice Springs.

Marilyn was born in the Jay Creek community, but grew up in Hermansburg where her father worked for the Finke River Mission as an engineer.
It was here that Marilyn remembers watching Albert Namatjira and Clifford Possum painting and being inspired by them and being given permission to paint the dreamtime stories.
As a teenager she was a vocalists with the Aranda band in Hermannsburg.
She started to paint back in 1988 as a stress reliever (for the womens centre).
Clifford encouraged Marilyn to develop her skills with her dot painting, helping her to understand and paint the Dreamtime stories of the area they are from.
Marilyn has many skills and worked as a councellor at the womens and childrens centre also with Aboriginal congress as a health worker.
Marilyn moved back to Jay Creek in 1974.
Although she spends a lot of time with her young family, she still likes to do beadwork, paint and do leather work which she learnt from her father.
Marilyn has been on the board of Ngurratjuta Aboriginal Corporation for many years and it was at her suggestion that the Art centre was formed to create a place for artists to come and paint when they are in town and pass on their knowledge to the younger generations.

Pansy Napangardi was born at Haasts Bluff in the late 40’s.
She never went to school as she would always run away to go swimming and be with the horses on the Haasts Bluff Mission instead.
In 1960 Pansy lived at Papunya and observed many artists painting, in particular Johnny Warrangkula and Kaapa Tjampitjinpa.
She developed her own style of painting and rather than work on paintings with the older men Pansy began working for herself in the early 70’s.
Pansy paints the Desert Raisin story, this dreaming belongs to her mother who is from Ilypili country.
The desert raisin (kampuralpa) is a seed fruit from which the women make a dough, it is then eaten and not cooked.
She also paints Kungka Kutjarra (two women) Travelling, the site is Ilypilli and surrounding country.
The underlining symbols represent countryside and body paint, the women are travelling and having ceremonies along the journey.
Other painting themes are the Hail Dreaming or Water Dreaming.
Her sister Alice Napangardi is married to Dinny Nolan and lives at Papunya.

Peter's father worked as a station hand in the central desert region.
As a small boy Peter accompanied his father as he worked stations from Horse Shoe Bend through to Hermannsburg, 120km west of Alice Springs.
These early years in Hermannsburg shaped Peter's lifelong interest in painting.
Not only did the picturesque location of Hermannsburg (set amongst the West MacDonnell Ranges) capture his imagination, but the example set by Hermannsburg artist, Albert Namatjira influencedAfter completing his schooling in Adelaide Peter returned to live in Alice Springs.
Peter spent many hours painting alongside Clem Abbott and Keith Namatjira, where he further developed the initial drawing and painting skills he'd learnt at school.
